Overview

 

Working at vTime Games as a Games Designer on Border Bots VR, a puzzle game inspired by Papers Please with the addition of narrative. 

​

'Border Bots VR is a puzzle simulation set on a future earth where AI is in control. As a human border agent, you begin a new role as a booth operator at an AI travel border. Interact and check over a variety of robots as they try to get through security. Some of their credentials might not be up to scratch, it's up to you to make sure they get the stamp of approval.'

Responsibilities:

​​

  • Gameplay/System Design:

    • Variety of interactive gadgets and gameplay elements for players

    • Fun onboarding tutorialisation, with new players in mind. 

    • Booth gameplay balancing, taking into account difficulty curves and pacing of content.

    • Items in the shop for players to purchase and enhance gameplay

    • Ranking and Progression System. 

  • Level Design

    • Apartment Layout - Room layouts, character positions, interactions

    • Booth Layout - Where gadgets are placed and when they unlock

  • Narrative Design

    • Plotting out Game Structure in Arcweave

    • Writing and editing scripts for the overall narrative

    • Directing VO sessions with Voice Over Artists

  • UI/UX

    • How players are given information - Briefing Screens, Tooltips​

    • Controls - Supporting different types of VR players

    • HUD - how we provide information to the player in VR within the scene

  • Overall Design

    • Design documentation in confluence

    • Console Certification - Design challenges related to certifying on certain platforms

    • Console Features - Playstation 5 feature design, VR Headset Rumble, Activity Cards

  • Other​​

    • ​Localization tasks for Subtitles. ​

    • ​Bug reporting, fixing and polishing title 

    • Discussed with Client about the overall design

    • Cross-discipline communication in a mid-sized team
